The Story Of This 32-Year Old Ugandan Woman Who Married Herself Will Leave You Tongue-Tied

Ugandan1

Lulu Jemimah, 32, was fed-up of her family lecturing her on settling down. She decided to ‘marry’ herself in a shoestring ceremony in Uganda this summer.

The Oxford student admits her parents were ‘a bit confused’ about her decision. The day cost just £2 (approximately, 956 Naira) – for her taxi to the pub venue – thanks to gifts from friends.

But marriage is the last thing on her mind as she undertakes a masters in creative writing at the prestigious university.

So, in a bid to get her parents off her back, she decided to stage a mock wedding and sent formal invites out to her nearest and dearest.

She hired a dress, walked through the venue to the traditional wedding march and even gave a speech to her guests explaining the lack of a groom.

Lulu admits her Ugandan parents are baffled by her decision – but said she feels it was the perfect commitment to herself and her studies.

Proud Lulu said: ‘I have a strong passion in life and I am committed to achieving my goals at becoming an academic.

‘But all my family wanted to ask me was when I planned to get married – which is very important back in Uganda – followed by when I would be having children and starting a family.

‘My father wrote my wedding speech when I turned 16. Every birthday my mother prayed for me and in recent years this has included a plea for a good husband’

Oh well! What can we say? We wish her the best in all her endeavours.

Read Why Meghan Markle’s Father Will Not Be At The Royal Wedding

Meghan Markle wedding

Meghan Markle confirmed Thursday that her father will not be present to walk her down the aisle when she marries Prince Harry, in a late announcement hinting at disarray behind Britain’s meticulously planned royal wedding.

“Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding. I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health,” she said in a statement issued through Kensington Palace, Harry’s official residence.

Thomas Markle, 73, underwent heart surgery on Wednesday following a paparazzi scandal and a series of U-turns over his intention to attend.

The pre-ceremony fiasco would be enough to derail most weddings, but on Thursday preparations in Windsor, west of London, ploughed ahead with a military dress rehearsal, fine-tuning arrangements ahead of the big day.

The practice session saw military marches and a dry-run of the carriage procession, which will whisk Harry and his bride around the town to greet the crowds after their wedding at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Some 250 members of the armed forces are due to take part in Saturday’s festivities, and diehard royalists are already camping out to secure the best viewing spots along the carriage route.

Until now, Kensington Palace has tightly planned and closely controlled the drip-fed revelations about details of the wedding day.

Thomas Markle’s appearance at the wedding has been under a cloud of doubt throughout the week.

He was originally reported to have pulled out of the ceremony after a paparazzi scandal, where he allegedly posed for a set of staged photos sold for a reported £100,000 (114,000 euros, $135,000) — in a breach of royal etiquette.

Sources told US celebrity news website TMZ that he felt too embarrassed to attend the wedding.

He then signalled his intention to attend after being contacted by Markle via text, according TMZ, but questions remained as he was due to undergo heart surgery with just days to go before the wedding.

Meghan Markle’s statement confirmed that her father will not attend the wedding for health reasons.

“I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support. Please know how much Harry and I look forward to sharing our special day with you on Saturday,” Meghan Markle added in the statement.

TMZ reported Thursday that Thomas Markle was alert and out of surgery after having stents implanted.

“I’m ok. It will take a long time to heal. Staying in the hospital a few more days,” he told the site.

He has suggested that his ex-wife Doria Ragland, the bride’s mother, would be the best person to stand in and walk her down the aisle.

7 Meals You Can’t Miss At A Typical Nigerian Wedding

Nigerian meals at a wedding

The average Nigerian loves food and we cannot even argue this. For every wedding ceremony that takes place in Nigeria 70% of the guests are there for the food as much as they want to celebrate with you.

Nigerian meals are quite interesting and toothsome.

Here are meals you would surely see at most Nigerian weddings.

1. Jollof Rice

This is the king of all Nigerian meals at any occassion. How can you not have Jollof at your wedding?.Based on its name, the origins of Jollof rice can be traced to the Senegambian region that was ruled by the Jolof Empire. Somehow, Nigerians have ‘owned’ this delicacy and presented it in different amazing ways.

2. Pounded Yam

It is a delicacy prominent to the south-western part of Nigeria. Iyan , as it is called by natives, has its root among the people of Ekiti state in south western Nigeria. Pounded yam is a special food for special occasions in Nigeria such as in marriages, coronations, house warming, funeral to mention a few.

3. Fried Rice

This tastes differently from jollof rice and sometimes served side by side with jollof rice.

4. Porridge

Yam porridge is made with yam, oil, vegetables and preferably tomatoes.

Pottage is cooked in many different ways in accordance with national food cultures, customs and traditions.

5. Ofada Sauce

Ofada sauce got its name from the local rice which it is usually served with (Ofada rice), the sauce is called Ayamase.

The pairing is just splendid.

6.  Moin Moin

Moin-Moin is a Nigerian steamed bean pudding made from a mixture of washed and peeled beans, onions and fresh ground peppers.

7. Small Chops

Nigerian small  chops are finger foods served at parties.

These include spring rolls, baby puff puff, samosas, peppered gizzards, chicken kebab, asun, stick meat, mini sausage rolls, Nigerian fish rolls and a lot more.

Small chops can be quite filling too. Nigerian meals add their own quota in making a wedding colourful and spicy.
