You Should Know These 10 Essential Wedding Tips And Tricks

Wedding_Planning

One thing about planning a wedding or any other event at all is to find multiple ways to go about it in order to make your life easier.

Here are some essential wedding planning tips that might help you:

1.       The Earlier The Better

It is necessary to start out early as with whatever you have to do in life – be it preparing to host an event or even attending one. It saves a lot. Being definite about when to start helps you make better plans and allows you to follow through. Also, cuts all the needless tension.

2.       We All Need Somebody

As much as you want everything to go your way, it is necessary that you allow family and friends help you through this process. You can share a blueprint of your plans with them and allow them to run with it. This will reduce stress a great deal for you and your spouse.

3.        Select Bridal Train

If you must have a train, then you must ensure the people who are on this train are close with you and/or your spouse. Nobody feels comfortable with total strangers, talk more of wanting to be around or close to unfamiliar faces on your big day.

4.       Like Love, Share Responsibilities

Apart from getting help from friends and family members, sharing responsibilities between you and your spouse are equally important and both of you should be held accountable so one person doesn’t end up doing too much and then resentment sets in.

5.       Make A-List

Budget, to-dos… lists are very important. On a note-pad, your phone or a computer have as many duplicates as you can. This helps you keep track of your progress.

Weddings can be exhausting no matter how small or quiet, finding a smart way to navigate is best for you and your spouse.

An Easy Guide To Getting Married During A Pandemic

Wedding in pandemic iludio

Times have been crazy. The world technically came to a halt. Of course, like most unfortunate situations no one saw it coming. Somehow, we have to get by and make the best of whatever we have. Knowing that at the end of this all, we will come out better and stronger.

So, you had plans to get married before the unusual turn of events and still wondering how you can pull that off?

1. Converse With Your Partner

The most important people involved in a wedding are the bride and the groom. Whatever decision you are trying to reach must go down well with your partner.

Would they rather wait till the pandemic is over?

Are they not so comfortable with a wedding without family?

Are they excited to cut cost and have a wedding without guests?

As long as you are on the same page with your partner, then you are 95% good. You wouldn’t want to start a marital journey by being at loggerheads with your partner over your wedding plans. Do not try to cajole them, ensure that they are buying whatever you are suggesting with no bias. Also, be objective if they have a contrary opinion.

2. Talk To Family And Friends

Inasmuch as your partner is the most important person to consult on affairs relating to your wedding. Your family and loyal friends also play an essential role. If in doubt, both parties (you and your partner) can consult them and even run your ideas by them.

They may share your thoughts or add or deduct which can be equally helpful.

3. Try To Eliminate Fear

Fear has the capability of holding you down in more ways than you can imagine. It is a common emotion due to the current pandemic. The uncertainty of the future and all that but focus solely on your immediate plans. The rest will take care of itself while staying safe and maintaining proper social distancing of course.

4. Opt For An Online Wedding

Online weddings are on the rise. There are several video apps you can use for this. Opting for an online wedding is perfectly normal in these times. All you have to do is make sure you and your partner are on the same page, then inform family and a few friends, and the marriage officiant.

5. Trust Your Decision

Whatever you and your partner decide on, be confident that it’s for the best. Be it postponing and waiting till the pandemic is over or having an online wedding. It’s your marriage ceremony in the end and the choice really is yours. Whatever you choose to do is all for the best.

6. Remain Positive

Staying positive may be a bit tricky as well as making long term plans but you owe it to yourself and your partner to remain positive. Expecting nothing but the best at the end of it all.

Remember, to stay safe, wash your hands and practise social distancing.

Easy Ways You Can Creatively Knot Your Tie On Your Big Day

Necktie Iludio

Neckties always have a way of adding spice to an entire corporate ensemble particularly for the man.

The origin of the necktie dates back to 1618 to Croatian mercenaries serving in France during Thirty Years War ( one of the most dangerous conflicts in human history that occurred between 1618 – 1648 in central Europe). The Croatians little-knotted neckerchiefs intrigued the Parisians and soon they bought into the fashion style and it became a new craze and men and women could be seen wearing pieces of fabrics around their neck.

Over the years we have seen men and women from all races wear neckties in different, stylish and unique ways.

Here are a few ways you can style your necktie for your big day.

1.  Trinity Knot

This is a super stylish style and works quite well for weddings and corporate functions.

2.  Full Windsor Knot

The Windsor knot always works well for presentations and job interviews too. It heavily portrays the triangle.

3.  Four-In-Hand Knot

This is a go-to knot that can be done in quick, easy steps. It works well with wide neckties with thick fabrics.

4.  Pratt Knot

This is typically thinner than the Windsor knot. Looks fine on lightweight and medium weight ties.

Ties do add a certain kind of elegance to a man or woman’s outfit. Knotting your ties with the above styles on your big day will give any groom that surreal look he hopes to achieve.

Here’s How You Can Pick The Right Colours For Your Wedding

colour

Not everybody has their way with colours or can understand the chemistry involved in blending two colours together to give a perfect tone.

For your big day, even though you may not be a fan of bright colours you’d still at least want a hue that pops or at least works with your personality or that of your spouse.

Here are rules to follow to pick the right tone for your wedding

1 Know Your Location

Pay attention to the colour scheme at your wedding venue, from wall painting to trees and the like. When picking a venue, be aware of the shades and tones at the venue because this will affect the hue you want for your big day.

Sometimes, the inherent colours at your reception venue can help you settle for a certain shade.

2. Know What’s Important

Be certain that whatever colour you are choosing suits your partner as well and doesn’t contradict with some of the designs or possible furniture at the venue.

3. Consider The Season

The time of the year can also help you pick your preferred wedding colours. For instance, white during the harmattan, yellow for the bright and sunny weather. Although, you don’t have to stay off your favourite colours because you are trying to match with the season.

4. Focus On What You Love

Inasmuch as you don’t want to solely focus on the colour or colours that get you. Your favourite colour/colours should come to play when picking the right shade for your wedding.

5. Research

Finding inspiration never hurts at all. Visiting Pinterest if you don’t have the time to go to an art gallery could go a long way in helping you choose the best hues.

However you choose to go about picking colours for your big day, ensure that you have fun with it. Life is meant to be lived (well) anyway.

What Nobody Told You About Setting Your Wedding Date

Save the date Iludio

Coming up with a wedding date can almost be as stressful as the planning itself. Nobody mentions this as everyone is more on the planning than the timing which is equally important.

You wouldn’t want to plan an outdoor wedding during the rainy season. Will you?

Here are a few tips to consider when setting your wedding date.

1. Venue

You have to be sure that your proposed or desired venue will be available on the date you pick.

The availability of the venue is also a key determinant.

2. Availability Of Guests

Inasmuch as you shouldn’t hinge your wedding plans on another person, knowing when your loved ones or family member will be off work/business is also important as regards setting your wedding date. Well, except, you want to get married only in the presence of your spouse.

3. Personal Schedule

Take your schedule and that of your partner’s into consideration, this ought to be top on the list.

You wouldn’t want to get married on the day when clients/business partners are blowing up your phone because of one important business meeting.

Also, it is good for you and your partner to pick a date where you can both get a reasonable time off to honeymoon.

4. Your Budget

Getting married at the beginning of the year might be tricky because most people would have spent heavily during the festive period. It is good to consider when you and your partner are buoyant enough before setting a date.

5. Time Of The Year

Weather, as was mentioned earlier, is an important factor to consider. For an outdoor wedding, nobody wants their guests – terribly wet and cold on their big day.

Fixing your wedding date should be ranked as high as the planning. It determines a host of things.

10 Best Ways To Cut Costs And Have A Fabulous Wedding Day!

A really long time ago, I came across this on a friend’s Instagram handle. Sculptors Events is one of the more known wedding planning outfits in Abuja with a reputation for the fun and games orchestrated during the reception. This is something I’m comfortable sharing since it doesn’t recommend taking things off the photography budget! I wouldn’t want to jeopardize my career as a wedding photographer!

  1. Trim the guest list. Your cost per head is your biggest expense
  2. Choose a gorgeous setting. You’ll save a bundle on decorations
  3. Go with a reception site that comes with tables, chairs and staff.
  4. Start the wedding earlier in the day.
  5. Limit the alcoholic offerings to wine, beer and soft drinks. Also consider punch as a festive but cost-effective alternative to mixes drinks.
  6. Move the wedding from Saturday to a weekday. Vendors most times lower their fees for days that are less in demand, and you’ll be guaranteed a smaller RSVP on the guest list.
  7. Eliminate the champagne toast. Have guests toast with whatever they are drinking at the time.
  8. Instead of a band, hire a DJ or have a friend create a playlist.
  9. Opt for an inexpensive printing method on your invitations.
  10. Skip souvenirs. Write a personal note instead 😊

Today, I’m going to let my friend have the final word on some of these recommendations but in the future I’ll lend a comment or two. If you must proceed with some of these, bear some caution in mind. A DIY wedding isn’t for the faint of heart!

How to choose the right wedding dress for you

wedding-dresses-1486004_1280
How do you find the perfect wedding dress?
For a long time, the approach has been a fairly intuitive one… Try on a dress, if you like it and you can afford it, buy it! But with variations in styles, body types, materials, and suitability for different aspects of the occasion, I guess we can all agree it has become fairly complicated.

Those of us who can remember Princess Diana’s wedding gown would agree with the summary I’ve got above.

A regular internet search throws up some suggestions like
  • Research bridal dress styles before you go shopping
  • Decide on a budget and only try dresses within your limit
  • Try familiar cuts that flatter your body shape
  • Model your wedding dress choice after styles and cuts that you find flattering from your regular wardrobe
…and similar tips and tricks.
These are very useful but have ignored a very recent development in the wedding industry… the advent of bridal stylists!
They might sound avant-garde and possibly for only the most sophisticated of brides, but like with every other vendor category on the market (photography included), there are tiers of bridal stylists for different clients and budgets.

Why do I think the bridal stylist is the most important in the arsenal of setting up your ideal look for the day? Because a good stylist has not just the flair, but also the training to guide you on matters of dress styles especially as it relates to your body shape and different cuts.
Does it really have to be this complicated? Can’t things be more simple?Maybe so… but don’t knock what you haven’t tried!

Having been a wedding photographer since 2011, I’ve come to find that some things are not as simple as they seem when it comes to the dress. My cousin had the perfect hourglass figure in pin-up proportions and so the consensus was straightforward. She decided (and most of us agreed) that she would walk down the aisle in a mermaid style dress…. until she came to the dress fitting!

Since I know nothing about styles, I can’t say what silhouette she settled for, but a trusted and more educated eye led to a better flattering choice for the day.

How do you find the perfect wedding dress?
Google and your friends can take you halfway to a few good choices. A bridal stylist, on the other hand, can seal the deal and make you spot on!

How do you get the best wedding photos that are authentically you?

How do you get the best wedding photos that are authentically you? Regardless of whether you want your wedding to be the “talk of the town” and uber trendy, or intimate and sophisticated; you deserve to have wedding photos that are authentically you.

This was a theme I came across online in an article recently. How do you make sure your wedding photos are authentically you?

  • Your photographer should make you feel worthy of being photographed no matter what you look like, or how awkward you are.
  • Your photographer should be interested in you as a couple and see how your personality can be brought out in photos.
  • Your photographer should be curious about and capture different elements you’ve incorporated from your religion, your culture, and your interests.

Why is any of this important? Because early on in the buying process, some couples focus exclusively on the price and miss out on this salient and important subtle stuff. You deserve a lot more than the lowest common denominator.

A good friend of mine had incorporated Greco Roman themes into her Lagos wedding. She is an interior design professional. For her, this was a way of infusing her signature into a ceremony she thought paid very little attention to her and her fiancé.

The photography budget fell to the groom and they ended up with the “affordable” and “safe” guy. His photos weren’t bad… but they paid very little attention to the ambiance and the little details. The photographs were sharp, well composed and properly retouched, but we all could tell that these were not the photos our friend intended.

You deserve a lot more from your wedding photographer. Make sure your photographs are authentically you.

7 Eccentric Wedding Movies Any Prospective Couple Can Easily Take Lessons From

wedding party

Most people think wedding movies are cheesy and mundane but we totally disagree.

More often than not, there are major lessons to be learned. Here are a few of our favourites and we did learn a lot!

1. Wedding Crashers

The movie centres on two divorce mediators who crash weddings in an attempt to meet and seduce bridesmaids.

One major lesson is the importance of having a guest list and controlling the crowd… Regardless of how things turned out in the movie.

2. 27 Dresses

After serving as a bridesmaid 27 times, a young woman wrestles with the idea of standing by her sister’s side as her sibling marries the man she’s secretly in love with… Well apart from affirming that being a consistent bridesmaid is not such a bad thing *winks* just as having the guts to shoot your shot when necessary.

3. Bridesmaids

The plot followers a lady who suffers a series of misfortunes after being asked to serve as maid of honour for her best friend.

Be careful about what you eat after trying out your wedding dress, in addition, a bachelorette must not always be a raunchy night at the club.

4. Father Of The Bride

A businessman and owner of an athletic shoe company finds out his daughter is getting married and refuses to give her away. He eventually learns to live with his new son-in-law and realizes that as long as his daughter is happy, he is happy.

Your parents will always miss having you around talk more of letting you go to start a family of your own but it gets better with time.

5. My Best Friend’s Wedding

A woman’s long-time friend reveals he’s engaged, she realizes she truly loves him and sets out to get him, with only days before the wedding.

One thing is certain, this movie affirmed that you should never let an important moment passby.

6. The Wedding Singer

A cool guy with a broken heart who’s stuck in one of the most romantic jobs in the world, a wedding singer. He loses all hope when he is abandoned at the altar by his fiancé. He meets a young woman who reaches out to him to plan her wedding. He falls in love with her and must win her over before she gets married.

Eventually, you will find the person that has 80% of what you’ve ever wanted. You really will… a major lesson.

7. The Wedding Party

The film takes place during the day and evening of the wedding between a 24-year-old art gallery owner who is the only daughter of Bamidele and Tinuade Coker, and an IT entrepreneur who comes from a very wealthy family. His mother, considers her son to be marrying beneath himself.

When it comes to your exes, leave no stone unturned… Ensure relationships are ended properly to avoid any you know, hullabaloo *wide grin*
