#FunkeSays: How to compromise when your parents pay

It is time for another episode of #FunkeSays. This time it is about how to get the wedding you want even if your parents or in-laws are paying. Hope you have followed FunkeSays vlog series. If not, you really should.

Funke starts off saying that first ask your parents or in-laws the kind of wedding they want. If you have different visions, then you have to compromise. Furthermore, she suggests that on the wedding day, you can have an area dedicated to your friends and make different provisions for them. For example, you can have different table decor or provide a separate caterer.

She recommends that you pay for some things yourself, as adding to the budget can help you infuse some of what you want. You can have what you want in different ways but must compromise in some areas. You can meet some of the vendors that your parents are hiring and let them know at least what you’ll like.

In life we can’t always get what we want but we can find a way to get some things.

Ultimately, use your gut to select.

#FunkeSays: How to put your personality in your wedding

Funke is back again with a great episode of #FunkeSays following How to pick a wedding planner. This time she shares why and how you need to make your wedding reflect your personality? Your wedding needs to reflect your style and be your own.

To achieve this, you have to ask yourself certain questions such as – What kind of person are you? Do you like entertainment? Do you love to be daring/unconventional? Do you love to travel? Are you a traditional bride? Are you a romantic bride?

If you love to travel and love exotic locations, you can reflect it on the table with place cards or table settings that reflect places you have been to. You can send out invitation cards similar to post cards from places you’ve traveled or ask guests for destinations you can go on your honeymoon.

If you love fashion, you could have it reflected with your bridal train. You can also have a red carpet or fashion runway.

If you love romance and want everyone to experience love, you can reflect it in the music. Also you can even write and say your marriage vows.

If you love adventure, you can get married on a yacht or a ranch.

Funke goes further to describe other kinds of brides and what possible ways to reflect their style. The most important thing is to have a wedding that reflects YOU and your personality.

#FunkeSays: Here’s How to Pick a Wedding Planner

We are great fans of Funke Bucknor-Obruthe’s vlog series. This episode of #FunkeSays follows up on the last episode “Why You Need a Wedding Planner“.

According to her, the first thing is to do your research and interview many planners. During the interview, find out how they charge. Is it a flat fee or by percentage? You want to pick a good planner.

A good planner is:
1. Very diplomatic
2. Great with crisis management.
3. Has integrity. You know that by asking people.
4. Should be professional. That is, how they communicate and keep to appointments.

To discover a planner that suits you, you have to ask questions and conduct research. You also have to use referrals. Ultimately, use your gut to select.

According to Funke, some reasons for a wedding planner are:

  1. A planner takes the stress off you. Very important, if you don’t have time.
  2. A planner helps convert your dream into reality.
  3. A planner manages your vendors and the decision making.
  4. A planner manages your budget on and before the wedding day

She further mentions that you don’t necessarily require a planner. However, there are more good reasons to have a planner than not.

#FunkeSays: Now you are engaged; what next?

In this inaugural episode of #FunkeSays, Funke Bucknor-Obruthe shares her tips and advice on what to do once you are engaged. We are excited to share this wonderful series to help brides and grooms plan their wedding.

According to Funke,

  • The first thing is to announce to family and friends. Also, let others know that you are engaged… Share the excitement.
  • Next, you should think about the kind of wedding you want. How big? Is it a destination wedding?
  • You should sit down with groom and family to decide.
  • You should determine the season as it can affect the wedding cost and setting. Outdoor weddings can be difficult when it rains.
  • You should determine who pays for what. Is it the Bride, Groom, Groom’s family or Bride’s family? Be realistic!
  • Finally, you should call your wedding planner.
